On the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Whole Earth Festival in 2018 grateful alum, faculty and community members launched a campaign to ensure long-term support for UC Davis student-led efforts to advance justice and sustainability and the programming and infrastructure of the SLLC.
The initial donors established the Student Sustainable Living and Learning Communities Development Funds. Already, more than $80,000 has been committed to these funds. Our goal is to raise at least $40,000 per year for the next five years to fund at least two Green Fellowships a year and support the Program and Planning Fund. Minimum donation of $500/person (pledged over five years at $100/year). Donations will be allocated 70% to the Green Fellowships, and 30% to the Program and Planning Fund, until the $40,000 goal is reached. Additional funds may be allocated to fellowships or the Capital Fund at the donor's discretion.
The Green Fellowships are intended to give students financial support so they can focus on exploring ideas in community with others. Each fellowship will include $4,000 of direct financial support for the student and up to $2,500 to be used as directed by the academic adviser to the project. Once funds are raised to cover two Green Fellows annually applying from any discipline, donors may fund additional, and if they wish more targeted, Green Fellowships. For more information on the Green Fellowship application process (due on May 15, 2020), and the 2018/2019 inaugural fellows and currenct 2019/2020 fellows click here.
Program and Planning Fund
This fund will provide at least $10k per year for five years to continue to develop programming and plan for infrastructure for the SLLC in the area including the Student Farm, the Tri-Co-ops, the Community Gardens, and the Domes.
Future Additions may include:
This fund will support developing infrastructure as envisioned by the SLLC master vision plan (to be finalized in September 2018) and new programing consistent with student-led explorations of sustainability and community.
At the close of the initial five years we will re-evaluate the needs of the SLLC and consider initiating a long term endowment fund.
