Cultivating Community

Spring 2026

In Spring 2026, the SLLC was awarded the TGIF Grant for the Cultivating Community project. This project aims to create a space that allows for the growing, or cultivation of community to inspire and coordinate student-led sustainability work on campus. The project is expected to take course over the next two years. There are four key components:

  1. Officially launch the SLLC Center (previously known as the Demo Hut) with support for overhead costs

  2. Work with campus stakeholders to ensure that the program plan aligns with neighborhood/district planning

  3. Support a student-led design and build process for new native landscaping and added site elements

  4. Host an opening celebration for the new site in order to invite potential users to explore and learn about how to use the space for student-driven sustainability initiatives.

How to get involved:

This project opens up several volunteering opportunities within the work of landscaping, building, and community engagement. We invite students to join us as we rework this space, as the ultimate goal is for it to be used by students themselves. All experience levels and backgrounds are welcome!

If you are interested in learning more about the space, we have many opportunities to do so:

  • Fall 2026: Show students the new resources the hut has, lay out what is to come and what to expect, and explain how to get involved.
  • Spring 2027: SLLC Spring Studio - Building site elements
  • Fall 2027: Fall Involvement Community Workshop - Open House

Join our Collab (Collaboration in the SLLC) Meetings, held throughout the academic year to stay in the loop. If of interest, join the listserv! Look out for more updates and specific dates on this page and our instagram, or contact our community coordinator at [email protected].
